Resident dies, firefighter injured in Sunday morning Oak Grove blaze

The body of an elderly man was found Sunday afternoon in the charred remains of an Oak Grove house that was destroyed during an early morning fire.

The man's body was discovered at about 1 p.m. by firefighters who went inside the house after the fire. The house was so cluttered that heavy machinery was needed to remove excessive debris from around the dwelling before it was safe to enter the building.

Neighbors reported the fire at about 3:15 a.m. as flames lept from the house at 5135 S.E. El Centro Way.

A firefight was also injured fighting the blaze, which was fed by a broken natural gas line and complicated by extensive remodeling and large amounts of household products stacked throughout the home.

It took firefighters more than two hours to contain and control the blaze in the home. It was a total loss.
