Halloween Boo Bowl benefits Oregon Food Bank

Saying “candy is dandy, but nutritious is delicious,” Oregon City resident Tom Geil is coordinating an event for local nonprofits during the Halloween holiday season.

Giel’s online store, Ghoul Gallery, is partnering with the Oregon Food Bank and 20th Century Lanes to conduct The Halloween Boo Bowl on Saturday, Oct 20, at 3550 S.E. Powell Blvd., Portland.

“We hope to bring attention to the fact that for many Oregon families, even basic food groups are critical during these tough economic times,” said Geil, a longtime fundraising director for local nonprofits.

Even those who missed local media reports of the big need at the Oregon Food Bank, Geil argues, would see in their communities a lack of nutritious food for families who have lost their jobs.

“This is an opportunity for participants to dress up, have some fun partying for Halloween and help the not so fortunate,” Geil said.

You don’t have to be a great bowler to attend the event. Yes, there will be cosmic bowling. But costume contests, Halloween dance music and raffle drawings are among the other big draws for the evening’s events.

There are two shifts on Saturday Oct. 20, 7 and 10 p.m. Advance reservations are encouraged by calling 20th Century Lanes, 503-774-8805.

Entry is $15, a portion of which will be donated to the food bank. For every can or box of dry food donated (up to five per person), participants will receive a raffle ticket good towards fun Halloween prizes.

Additional tickets will be available.
