By the end of the year, there will be one opening on the Oregon City Civic Improvement Trust and three openings on both Oregon City’s Parks & Recreation Advisory Committee and its Transportation Advisory Committee.

The city of Oregon City has 15 active boards, commissions or committees that are composed of volunteers appointed to the board or commission by the mayor or City Commission.

Boards and commissions review new and existing operations in specific areas and suggest an appropriate course of action to city management and the City Commission. Many terms expire Dec. 31, and the city is recruiting for applications for these future openings. The deadline to apply is Dec. 5. After that date, interviews will take place and the appointments will be made in January 2013.

City officials say the job of board and commission members is crucial to the success of Oregon City’s representative government. “By sharing their experience, expertise and time, citizens provide valuable insight — the citizen’s point of view — to the operations of the city and the City Commission’s decision-making process,” the city’s website says.
