Michael Morrow, a city councilor for Happy Valley, was excited to join the governing board of Parrott Creek Child & Family Services last week.

Morrow appreciated how Oregon City-based Parrott Creek provided therapeutic services to 1,200 children and families in 2011 who are involved with the juvenile justice system, and he likes its “focus on the whole family to create long-term positive change, so that youth get back on the right path to a brighter, healthy future.

“I believe it’s a good investment in society’s future,” he said.

Parrott Creek announced the appointment of three new members to its board of directors last week. The other two appointed were Lake Oswego Municipal Court Judge Bruce Shepley and Tammy Mehner of Clackamas County’s Department of Human Services.

Linda Winnett, Parrott Creek’s executive director, said the appointments reflect its ongoing commitment to finding the very best community leaders from Clackamas County to support Parrott Creek in providing critical services to more than 1,000 youth and their families each year.

“The diverse set of ideas and knowledge the new board members bring to Parrott Creek will contribute to the continued success of the organization,” Winnett said.

Morrow and Councilor Tom Ellis, who was appointed in February 2011, both ran unopposed in this month’s election. An employee of Chicago-based Vascular Transplant Services, Morrow also serves on the North Clackamas Urban Watershed Council Board and as chairman for the North Clackamas Parks and Recreation District.

Morrow knew nothing about Parrott Creek until he was invited to its fundraising breakfast. After hearing its message, he met with board members, took a tour of the facility and was asked to join the board.

Morrow’s two goals for helping Parrott Creek are to raise money and spread the word about the work it’s been doing for the past 40 years.
