Harrison concert benefits OCHS band

The Nov. 28 concert, “The Moon of Wintertime,” takes place at the Tumwater Room at the Museum of the Oregon Territory, 211 Tumwater Drive, Oregon City.

Guided by his belief that music brings people of all ages together and fosters creativity for future generations, Harrison founded The Snowman Foundation in 1999 to support and promote music education among young people. In addition to a grand piano that the foundation donated to Oregon City High School, in recent years this holiday-themed concert has been a key fundraising activity in support of music education.

“The band program at OCHS is thriving, and with the growth of the bands we are in need of instruments, music and marching uniforms for the students,” said Dana Henson, director of bands. “This concert provides a unique opportunity for us to celebrate music, raise much-needed funds, and bring the community together to kick off the holidays.”

As a community effort, additional partners have made contributions to the event; the museum has donated their exceptional space to the concert. Overlooking Willamette Falls, this location provides a unique and intimate space for concert-goers. The Band Boosters organization, responsible for event coordination, is so excited about the venue that they have arranged to bring the piano for Harrison through a window of the top floor by crane.

Susan Anderson, co-chairwoman of the Bo osters group said, “This space is so special, what it brings to the atmosphere of the evening ... we had to have this concert here at any cost. Plan on an evening to fuel the magic of the holidays.”

General admission tickets will be available at the door on the night of the concert. Doors open at 6:15, and the concert begins at 7 p.m.
