Scouting for Food is a walk-and-knock campaign to gather food to help stock shelters and food banks in local communities. Always held on the first Saturday in December, Scouting for Food teaches Scouts service to others.

“In just two hours this morning, our 25 giggling and energized kindergarten through fifth-graders collected three bags of empty pop cans, one giant leaf and 766 pounds of food,” said Laurie Pearson, Cub Scout Pack 470 committee chairwoman and den leader.

That’s 100 pounds more than the amount that the 657 pounds Cub Scouts collected last year, and more than double their 2010 numbers of 358 pounds.

Oregon City’s First Presbyterian Church hosts Helping Other People Eat, and H.O.P.E. provides emergency food baskets for people in need in the Oregon City area, including Gladstone and West Linn. Cub Scout Pack 470 is based near Gaffney Lane, King and McLoughlin elementary schools in Oregon City, but welcomes boys from any school.
