“Raising Families in a Challenging World” is the theme of an Oregon City School District forum from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., Saturday, Feb. 9, at Oregon City High School.

The keynote speaker this year is Tim O’Brien, a Gladstone parent educator and child and family therapist. In addition to working with youth and families for Clackamas County, O’Brien has developed a course called the Parent Empowerment Program.

“Emphasis of the Parent Empowerment Program is placed on empowering parents to reclaim and retain their power as authority figures in their homes,” O’Brien said.

There will be more than 30 workshops centering on ways to be better parents, how to help children do better in school, and to bring the joy back to the all-important job of parenting. More than 20 local resources will also have booths at the forum, dispensing information and explaining their services.

As always, the Family Focus Forum is free and offers free child care and a free lunch, with preregistration. Families can sign up by contacting 503-785-8877 or This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it..
