Firefighters save house from garage conflagration

by: PHOTO COURTESY: CLACKAMAS FIRE DISTRICT NO. 1 -  Clackamas Fire District No. 1 crews extiguish this garage fire before it spread to the next-door house.Shortly after 2 p.m. Tuesday afternoon, 911 dispatchers began receiving multiple reports of a building on fire at 21900 S. Highway 213.

Clackamas Fire District No. 1 firefighters arrived to find heavy black smoke and 20- to 25-foot flames coming out of a detached garage that was just 10 feet from a residence. Firefighters quickly went to work protecting the home and extinguishing the garage fire.

The home suffered only minor exterior fire damage, but the garage and the two cars it contained were a total loss. Two people were home with their dog at the time of the fire, and all escaped without injury.

Investigators have determined that the fire was caused by a mechanical failure in one of the vehicles that was in the detached garage. Damage has been estimated at $37,000 for the garage and its contents.
