Four high schools in Clackamas County brought home the hardware after the results were announced for the 2013 Dance/Drill championships, held March 13 through March 16 at the Memorial Coliseum in Portland.
Teams from the North Clackamas School District did particularly well, with the Clackamas High School team winning first place in the Show division, with 86.67 points.
The dance team from Rex Putnam High School also finished first in the 5A Intermediate division, earning 86.64 points; there were eight schools in that division.
In addition, RPHS dancer Abby Delehant placed third in the individual Drill Down competition.
Finally, Milwaukie High Schools dance team placed second in the 5A Small division; there were eight schools in that division, as well.
Both the Clackamas High and Rex Putnam teams were honored by the Dairy Farmers of Oregon as Oregon Academic All Stars, with average grade point averages of 3.59 and 3.5 respectively.
This is a great achievement and honor for these students, said Rex Putnam parent Debi Boltz. They put in many hours of team practice, but still keep up with their schoolwork and receive top grades.
Families interested in a competitive dance team experience for their high school freshman or sophomore this fall are invited to apply by March 31 for one of 50 open-enrollment places divided between Rex Putnam and Milwaukie high schools. Application is limited to students residing within 15 miles of the district. To apply, visit nclack.k12.or.us.
The dance team from Gladstone High School placed third in the 4A Large division, during Saturdays final competition, earning 80.31 points.
Oregon City High Schools team finished seventh out of 11 schools in the Show division.
