South End meetings offer a peek at the future

by: PHOTO COURTESY: CITY OF OREGON CITY - Hundreds of community members play the planning game at a February South End neighborhood meeting at McLoughlin Elementary. The city of Oregon City is inviting all Oregon City and South End community members to participate in a “Forum on the Future of South End” scheduled from 1 to 4 p.m. Saturday, April 13, at McLoughlin Elementary, 19230 South End Road.

The forum will consider future community design concepts for the area. Community members may arrive at any time and stay as long as they can. Refreshments will be provided, and there will be face painting and other activities for children.

Three possible concepts are being developed based on the land-use pattern maps created by participants at the Feb. 27 community workshop.

“Hundreds of Oregon City and South End residents and businesspeople have participated in this process to date,” said Project Manager Pete Walter. “We are hopeful that the design concepts will reflect the community’s values and vision for South End.”

Those who are unable to attend the forum in person will be able to comment on the concepts through an online interactive forum for approximately one month after April 13. Comments gathered will be used to develop a preferred concept for the future of South End. Part of the forum to discuss the preferred concept is scheduled for Saturday, June 1.
