Melva Jean Herndon

March 3, 1944 - March 23, 2013

Longtime Clackamas County resident Melva Jean Herndon died on March 23 in Oregon City.

She was born in Portland on March 3, 1944, to Ed and Sadie Brown.

She is survived by: husband, Ronnie; children, Serna, Troy and Donnita; son-in-law, Paul; six grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and two sisters.In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by one grandchild and three great-grandchildren.

A funeral service was held on March 29 at Omega Funeral & Cremation Service, with entombment at Riverview Abbey Mausoleum.

Russell Allen Ray Sr.

Aug. 20, 1956 - March 23, 2013

Russell Allen Ray Sr. died on March 23, at Providence Medical Center in Portland, with his children at his side.

He was born on Aug. 20, 1956, in Knob Noster, Mo., to Mildred and (Ray) Edelmann.

He moved to the Portland area with his family as a small child, lived in Oregon since and had lived in the local area for the past six years.

He will be remembered by many people in the community for the service work he provided to the fundraising events benefiting the Oxford House Recovery Homes.

In addition to the many friends who loved him, he is survived by: his mother, Mildred Edelmann; his children, Russell Ray Jr., Michelle Ray, Rachel Ackerson and David Ray; four stepchildren, Tye, Deborah, Jacob and James; his sisters, Nequetta (Leaming) Proulx and Georgia Leaming; brothers, David Leaming, James Leaming, Lionel Leaming and Harold Leaming; 11 grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews; and all of his Oxford family.
