Superintendent Bob Stewart sent a letter home to Gladstone High School parents on Friday regarding Principal Stu Evans, who is not expected return to work this school year due to a sudden illness that came on last Tuesday, April 9.

Stewart reported that Evans is immediately undergoing radiation treatment to be followed by chemotherapy. Examinations showed some growths, and doctors determined that he had cancer. On Thursday, he learned that surgery is not recommended because of the location of his cancer.

Vice Principal Patti Alexander will serve as interim principal; Athletic Director Jere Applebee will serve as an assistant principal. Cards or messages of encouragement can be sent to GHS, 18800 Portland Ave., 97027, in care of Ellen Peck.

“I know you will keep Mr. Evans in your thoughts,” Stewart wrote.
