Submissions sought for new downtown art

Milwaukie’s Arts Committee, known as “artMOB,” is seeking submissions for its fourth round of sculptures to be featured in the sculpture garden on the south lawn of City Hall along Jackson Street starting this fall, through August 2015.

Committee members ask that sculpture submissions “represent people, humans, families — or your interpretation thereof.” Three of the City Hall Sculpture Garden’s six pedestals are new every year in order to display a rotating sculpture collection.

The Milwaukie Arts Committee will provide each selected artist with an honorarium of $750. Committee members ask artists to install their own pieces, and these sculptures must be available for purchase.

Deadline to apply is at 5 p.m. Friday, Aug. 16.

The three pieces selected will be displayed from September 2013 through August 2015. At the time of installation the sculptures must be available for purchase.

If a sculpture sells, the artist must replace the piece with another of the same quality and scale at the time of removal of the sold artwork. Artists also agree to pay a 20 percent gallery fee to the Milwaukie Arts Committee for any sculpture sold while on exhibit in the City Hall Sculpture Garden.
