Apple donation helps fill food bank

Grocery Outlet on June 7 made a donation of nearly 21,000 pounds of fresh apples to the Oregon Food Bank to help feed the hungry in the local community.

by: PHOTO COURTESY: GROCERY OUTLET - At Grocery Outlet's Oregon City store this month, two representatives from FirstFruits Marketing of Washington helped load nearly 21,000 pounds of fresh apples donated by Grocery Outlet into the Oregon Food Bank truck. This is Grocery Outlet’s third year participating in the Take a Bite Out of Hunger program, which was created by FirstFruits Marketing of Washington.

“Grocery Outlet is a wonderful partner in the fight against hunger. People who are hungry will greatly appreciate these beautiful, nutritious applies. We thank Grocery Outlet for this generous donation,” said Sarah Schirmer, Oregon Food Bank’s corporate gifts developer.

The official donation took place at the Oregon City location at 878 Molalla Ave. Also in attendance at the event were Jeff Schroeder, marketing director of FirstFruits Marketing, Don Murphy, director of produce for Grocery Outlet, and Oregon City Grocery Outlet Owner/Operator Keith Price and his son Cory.

“We are committed to helping combat hunger in our community, and participating in Take a Bite Out of Hunger is a great way to make a difference,” Murphy said. “This program provides tangible help to those in need, and we are proud to be able to donate over 20,000 pounds of fresh and healthy apples.”
