by: SUBMITTED PHOTO - Artwork by Miles Menely, who attends Micha-el School in Milwaukie, is featured on the December page of the 2013-14 school year calendar. One of 13 students whose artwork is featured in the statewide calendar, Miles submitted his drawing of a salmon jumping out of the water last spring as a third-grade student at Micha-el School in Milwaukie.

This year’s winning art was chosen from a field of 1,460 entries from 24 Oregon counties. Each year 10,000 calendars are distributed statewide.

The artwork showcases the diversity of Oregon’s agriculture and natural resources. Other art in this year’s calendar highlights fruits, vegetables, trees and farm animals.

A reception was held last month at the Oregon State Fairgrounds to recognize Miles and the other students whose artwork was chosen for the calendar. Besides having their work included, each winning student received a $50 prize.
