Most parents find it a struggle to motivate their kids to tidy up after themselves, but on Saturday, Oct. 5, large groups of Milwaukie-area kids will take to the streets to clean up a mess that isn’t even their own.

Kids from Riverside Elementary School, Milwaukie High School, five local Boy Scout troops, Cub Scouts and Happy Valley Middle School will convene downtown for Milwaukie’s Fall Cleanup.

MHS students have been doing regular cleanups downtown before Milwaukie’s First Friday events.

Students from Happy Valley have been learning about volunteerism and will earn points for their leadership class by attending Milwaukie’s cleanup. The focus on leadership and volunteerism has earned their student council a state of Oregon award.

Kids and community-minded adults will convene at 9 a.m. at Milwaukie Presbyterian, 2416 S.E. Lake Road, for registration and assignments, then will gather at 11:30 a.m. for a celebration lunch. Pizza, sandwiches, cookies and more will be served — all donated by local businesses.
