LWV offers primer on education in Oregon City


The League of Women Voters of Oregon is presenting “Cradle to Career: LWV Education Studies Kick-Off 2013” at two fall events open to the public.

Studies are “Children at Risk” and “Postsecondary Education” as the 2013 Legislative Session approved major changes in the public education system. Key professionals will describe how the new education programs are being developed. All citizens, educators and parents are invited to attend.

The event at Umpqua Community College in Roseburg was Saturday, Oct. 12. The keynote speaker was Nancy Golden, chief education officer of the Oregon Education Investment Board.

The event at Clackamas Community College in Oregon City will be from 10 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 2. Pam Curtis, chairwoman of the Early Learning Council will be the keynote speaker. Panelists include Whitney Grubbs of the Oregon Education Investment Board; Karen Gorton of Clackamas County Youth and Family Services; Bob Stewart, Gladstone Schools superintendent; Dr. Joanne Truesdell, president of Clackamas Community College; Mary Louise McClintock, Oregon Community Foundation; and Lois Davis of Portland State University.
