Longtime Barton resident Don Burton has always eyed a particular 80-foot Western red cedar on the corner of Highway 224 and Baker Ferry Road that he thought would be the perfect community Christmas tree.

To get it ready, Alder Creek Tree Service helped trim the tree, and Ken Oliver designed a light for its top. Reps. Bill Kennemer and Patrick Sheehan were in attendance prior to the inaugural Dec. 21 tree lighting, which will become a Barton holiday tradition.

“With a donation from Hollywood Lights, we were able to put lights in the tree itself with help from PGE, which put in temporary service for the power and provided two big trucks to hang all the lights,” Burton said. “That’s going to be a Christmas village every year.”
