The Oregon City Police Department Community Outreach & Crime Prevention Office is accepting applications for the 2014 Citizen Academy.

This year's academy will be from 6 to 9 p.m. Tuesdays, Sept. 16 through Nov. 6, at the Police Department, 320 Warner Milne Road.

Applications may be downloaded from and be returned to the Police Department for consideration.

Applicants must meet the following requirements to be considered for the academy:

1. Be 18 years of age or older

2. Be a resident of Oregon City or work within or own a business in Oregon City

3. Pass a complete background check (includes, but may not be limited to, criminal activity and driving history and status)

4. Be available for all class sessions

5. Be approved for attendance by the police chief or designee as assigned

6. Sign a liability waiver

The Citizen Academy is limited to 25 qualified and accepted applicants. The academy gives citizens an opportunity to observe the inner workings of their police department. Police officers from many different fields explain and demonstrate the duties and responsibilities of their positions. This is an interactive program, so students' questions and comments are encouraged.
