The Milwaukie Budget Committee unanimously approved the 2015-2016 budget at its meeting last week, and City Council will now consider it for adoption.

The Budget Committee, comprised of the city’s five councilors, and an equal number of citizens, made few modifications to the proposed budget before voting its approval Thursday, May 29. The Budget Committee adjusted elements in the wastewater fund to account for a lower rate recommended by the Citizens Utility Advisory Board, made a minor change in the transportation fund to account for lower revenues delivered by the wastewater rate, and a re-appropriation of funds in the general fund for an Information Systems Technology Department project for fiscal year 2015 that was originally budgeted for FY 2014.

The proposed budget was prepared with the assumption that the bond refinancing the City’s light rail construction debt would pass on May 20. The bond did pass. Had the bond not passed, the finance director and city manager would have been tasked with assembling service and personnel cut packages for the Budget Committee’s consideration.

“We’re very pleased with the time and effort the Budget Committee has put into understanding the city’s proposed budget and their efforts in continually improving our budget process,” said Finance Director Casey Camors.

City Council will consider adopting the approved budget at its June 17 regularly scheduled meeting in City Hall, at 7 p.m.
