On Friday, Aug. 4, you're invited to the grand opening of the Milwaukie Station Food Cart Pod & Beer Garden, 11301 S.E. 21st Ave.
Grab a bite to eat before the ribbon cutting by Mayor Mark Gamba at 5:30 p.m. and then stay after the "formal" festivities to listen to live music by the Mostly Stones band until 8 p.m.
"This project has been a long time coming and it's finally a reality thanks to the perseverance of everyone involved, including city staff," said Richard Johnson, food cart pod manager. "It's been really gratifying to watch an unused, vacant lot transformed into a vibrant gathering place for the community, as well as an opportunity for the food cart owners, many of them in business for the first time."
Currently, six carts are stationed and open at the pod with more expected to come by opening day. Food carts offering specials next to the light-rail station will likely include Filipina Cuisine, Teppanyaki Hut, Caribbean Thing, Anything's Pastable, Azul Tequila Taqueria, Fizzy Floats, Biscuit Box NW, Thai Street, Vietnamese Noodle House and the Mediterranean gyro food cart.
First Friday will also have live music at Cha Cha Cha and across from City Hall, along with art up and down the street.
