Clackamas County On Tap & Uncorked puts fun in fundraiser
Beer, wine, food and fun will be on tap from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 9, at the Milwaukie Center's Sarah Hite Memorial Rose Garden.
Clackamas County On Tap & Uncorked will showcase breweries, cideries, distilleries and wineries in Clackamas County, making it unique and different from other festivals. The event also is a fundraiser for Meals on Wheels.
"At a staff meeting, we discussed having a fundraiser that would raise more funds than some of the things we are, or have been doing," said Colleen Sinsel, executive director of the Friends of the Milwaukie Center.
"Marty Hanley, the center supervisor, led staff through an exercise to identify three things that would actually bring [people] to the center for a fundraising event," she said, adding that the most popular answer was a beer and/or wine festival.
"After several more meetings, we decided to give it a try and started strategizing on who we could turn to for help putting it together," Sinsel said.
Meals on Wheels
"Meals on Wheels is a critical need in our community. Not only do we provide a nutritious meal for seniors and people with disabilities, it also serves as a welfare check and an opportunity to talk with someone for homebound people," Sinsel said.
"The Milwaukie Center is one of the largest Meals on Wheels sites in the Portland Metropolitan area, serving a large portion of North Clackamas County. Federal funding only covers about half of the cost, the rest comes from donations and fundraising," she said.
Sinsel is looking forward to the event and wants everyone to have a great experience and everything to go smoothly.
"We also hope to start building an event that can help sustain our Meals on Wheels program in the years to come," she said. "We will have great exhibitors, mostly from Clackamas County, great entertainment, delicious food cooked by our own chefs and more. Please come and help support Meals on Wheels."
The entertainment schedule for the event includes: Chris Baron, from 11 a.m. to 12:15 p.m.; 11 Days in Summer, from 12:45 to 2 p.m.; Chihuahua Desert, from 2:30 to 4 p.m.; Nobody's Sweetheart, from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m.; and Sonny Hess with Lady Kat, from 7 to 9 p.m.
