"Volunteers would be responsible for signing people in, helping with filling out intake forms, preparing or serving a light dinner, general supervision inside the facility or outside," Schmidt said. "This is a commitment, but a very rewarding one. You'd be saving lives by providing a loving, warm, safe place during dangerous outdoor living conditions."

Father's Heart also is looking to employ as many six people to cover shifts from 5 p.m. to midnight or from midnight to 7 a.m. "Wages would be approximately $15 per hour," Schmidt said. "We are looking for people with skills in managing crowds, detailed in entry process, able to follow directions and expectations, kitchen duties, as well as night shelter watch and dependability. Compassion and sensitivity to the needs of the homeless community and a desire to serve others is essential."

If you are interested in volunteering or working for Father's Heart, call 503-722-9780 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tuesdays through Fridays. Leave contact information with the receptionist. Father's Heart is located at 603 12th St., Oregon City.
