Vietnam War memorial dedicated in Milwaukie
Hundreds of people attended the Veteran's Day dedication of local sculptor Bruce Palone's obelisk memorializing Clackamas County veterans of the Vietnam War in Scott Park in downtown Milwaukie.
Prior to the Nov. 11 dedication ceremony, Mayor Mark Gamba said he was honored to unveil a new memorial for those from the community who gave their lives in the hope that all people may enjoy the fruits of justice and liberty today and in the future.
Post 180 Chaplain Jerry Craig, co-chair of the commemorative program between the city and American Legion, thanked the patriots who spent years bringing the 50th anniversary of the Vietnam War Commemorative Monument to fruition.
"The city of Milwaukie and Milwaukie Post 180 worked as a team with most departments contributing help in many ways," Craig said. "I can only say many many thanks for completing this project with dignity, honor and attention to detail through duty to get it done."
