School notes for March 7
North Clackamas School District (NCSD) officials are excited to offer full-day kindergarten for the 2018-19 school year.
"NCSD's kindergarten program provides a playful, caring, challenging and child-centered start in school," said district spokesman Jonathan Hutchison. "All students will participate in an age appropriate, full-day program that includes daily learning and structured play, a lunch period, and weekly instruction from music and physical education teachers."
The district encourages all families with children who will be 5 years old by Sept. 1 to register early for kindergarten.
"Registering before June 1 helps children, families and schools prepare for a smooth transition from home to school," Hutchison said. "Early registration also provides schools and families a chance to get to know each other so they can work together to support each child."
Parents or guardians are welcome to register their child at any time, and the district will host special "Hop on Board" early registration events at every district elementary school from 9 to 10 a.m. and from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. Thursday, March 8. During these sessions, families can meet staff, tour the school, participate in fun activities, and register for kindergarten.
NCSD's goal is to meet as many of its new kindergarten students as possible before the end of this school year. If you have questions about kindergarten, registration documents, or school location, call 503-353-6040.
Robotics team to represent Oregon at Super-Regional Championship
The Kraxberger Gearheads are on a roll. Of 200 Oregon robotics teams in their division, Team 8132 is among the 14 who will advance to the FTC West Super-Regional Championship in Spokane.
Coached by Shawn and Kelley Price, the team earned their spot by winning the Connect Award for building connections with local engineering, science and technology partners.
"This is a big deal for these middle schoolers, and an experience they'll never forget," said parent Tonya Hirte, whose daughter Lauren is team captain.
The regional competition March 8 to 11 will include 72 teams from 12 western states. The Gladstone team has launched a Go Fund Me campaign to raise the $4,000 needed for travel costs. To contribute, visit gofundme.com/FTC-West-Super-Regional-Gearheads.

"NCSD is an award-winning district that prepares students who are inspired and empowered to strengthen the quality of life in our local and global communities," said district spokesman Jonathan Hutchison.
