The Rex Putnam Kingsmen appear to be picking up where they left off last year in girls soccer.
The Kingsmen bounced Century 2-0 and they beat host Woodburn 2-0 in a Sept. 2 jamboree.
And they upended Hood River 4-0 in their Sept. 6 home opener.
The Kingsmen demonstrated that they have lots of weapons in the Hood River game. Junior Chelsea Steelman scored in the first five minutes of play, while sophomore Bella Geist and juniors Fatima Herrera and Brianna Barnes found the net in the second half.
Senior Brianna Norris, freshman MacKenzie Maier, Steelman and Herrera were all credited with assists.
Senior Anna Stewart was a rock in-goal.
'It was a wonderful game by sweeper Shayla Laurendeau, left defender Maddie Makinster, right defender Kaylee CdeBaca and stopper Yecenia Arrezola,' said Putnam coach Medhat Mohamed [MeMo]. 'Good work by Alea Leibner and Mariah Maier in the middle as well….
'We have only two seniors this year and the team is working hard to learn a new system of play since we lost six powerful seniors from last year. Hopefully we will continue to keep RPHS in the top level we achieved last year and build from there.'
In the Sept. 2 jamboree at Woodburn, Maier scored twice against Century, and Maier and Steelman scored against Woodburn.
The Kinsmen meet Canby on the road at 7:30 p.m. this Thursday. They entertain Pendleton next Tuesday at 4:30 p.m.
