Clackamas will return most of its top skill players

by: JOHN LARIVIERE - Doonie JohnsonLook for Clackamas to be a force to contend with in Class 6A football next fall.

The Cavaliers will return most of their top skill players from this fall, including first-team all-league running back Dan Sherrell, second-team all-league tight end Brody Haehlen, and honorable mention all-league selections Doonie Johnson (quarterback), Dalon Hudson (running back) and Taylor Stinson (tight end).

The Cavaliers will also return Cade Wilkins, who sat out this season with an injury after quarterbacking the Cavalier varsity two years ago as a sophomore. His sophomore year, Wilkins completed 146-of-265 passes (55 percent) for 1,425 yards and 10 touchdowns.

Johnson this year completed 172-of-308 passes (56 percent) for 1,864 yards and 16 touchdowns. Haehlen was the Cavaliers’ second leading receiver, with 37 catches for 420 yards and seven touchdowns.

Sherrell and Hudson were the Cavaliers’ leading ground-gainers this fall. Sherrell rushed 318 times for 2,101 yards and 25 touchdowns, and he hauled down 22 passes for 156 yards and two touchdowns. Hudson rushed 82 times for 460 yards and five touchdowns, doing most of the damage later in the season.

The Cavaliers will also return several talented defensive players, including inside linebacker Zach Farnes, who was the team’s leading tackler this fall, with 132 tackles, 92 of them unassisted.

Farnes was a second-team all-league selection on defense, along with junior outside linebacker Taylor Stinson and sophomore safety Hayden Kirsch.

The Cavaliers will return a veteran punter in senior Levi Millay, who was a first-team all-league selection as a sophomore. They’ll also return Michael McDonald, who did kickoffs and PAT kicks this year.
