La Salle Prep graduate Megan Hays scored a career-high 21 points and snagged nine rebounds to lead NCAA Division III George Fox University past Division II Azusa Pacific 68-65 in a Dec. 18 womens basketball game in Azusa, Calif.
Hays, a 6-3 sophomore, was 8-of-13 from the field and 5-of-5 from the free throw line, and she led the Bruins to a 30-25 advantage on the backboards.
Hays had a tremendous run at La Salle, helping lead the Falcons to a school-record 28 wins, a 28-1 record and the state final in 2011.
It was the sixth straight win for George Fox, which entered the game ranked 21st in the nation in Division III.
The Bruins (7-2) made it a clean sweep of their Division II opponents in the championship game of the Azusa Pacific Invitational on Dec. 19, recording their seventh straight victory of the season, with a 61-50 win over Point Loma Nazarene University. Hays scored 12 points and corralled seven rebounds in that game.
Through play Dec. 19 Hays was averaging 8.1 points and 5.9 rebounds, while starting in six games.
