Muller is first-team all-state

by: JONATHAN HOUSE - Nena DudleySix players from Gladstone received recognition in balloting for the 2013 Class 4A all-state softball teams.

Catcher Ashlee Muller, the only senior on this year’s squad, was named to the elite first all-star unit. Muller had a .422 season batting average, with 34 RBI and 26 runs scored, as she helped lead the Gladiators to a school-record 26 wins [26 wins, 4 losses] and the Class 4A state semifinals.

Gladstone junior pitcher Nena Dudley, who finished with a 13-2 record and a 0.88 ERA, was a second-team all-state selection.

Junior pitcher Megan Kirchem (13-2 record, 0.43 ERA), junior second baseman Julia Schumaker (.417 batting average, 31 runs, 20 RBI), sophomore utility player Andra Breshears (.391 batting average) and freshman outfielder Kat Kerr were third-team all-state selections.

Clackamas had two seniors named to the Class 6A second team: catcher Vanessa Oakden and first baseman Mariah Scholes. Oakden had a .373 batting average and Scholes hit .485, as the Cavaliers repeated as Three Rivers League champions and advanced to the second round of the Class 6A playoffs.

Oregon City senior first baseman Raina Drake garnered third-team all-state honors. She hit .397 on the season.
