Gary Baton inducted into Hall Of Fame
Longtime Clackamas High School baseball coach Gary Baton will be inducted into the Oregon High School Baseball Coaches Association Hall Of Fame on Saturday, Nov. 9, along with Ron Goodell (Roseburg), Stacey Morgan (Grants Pass), Steve Sugg (The Dalles), Al Geddes (Molalla) and Bill Wittala (PIL).
Baton retired as head coach at Clackamas in 1996 after 20 seasons as head coach of the Cavaliers. In retirement he moved to Bend and assisted in the baseball program at Mountain View High School for seven years. Baton also headed up the baseball program at Knappa High School for three years (1973-75) and assisted at David Douglas for one season (1976).
During his coaching tenure, his varsity teams played 572 games, winning 264.
The inductees will be honored at the Holiday Inn in Wilsonville on Saturday, Nov. 9, at the OHSBCA Hall Of Fame Banquet. A no host bar is set for 6:15 p.m. with the banquet to follow at 7 p.m.
