OCs Lacey makes some waves at Sandelie
Also: La Salle Prep boys continue to hold their own with the big boys
Oregon City senior Al Lacey and La Salle Prep's boys cross country team made some waves at the recent Sandelie Classic, held Oct. 11 at Sandelie Golf Course in Wilsonville.
Lacey finished fourth in a varsity boys field of 252 runners, completing the 5,000-meter course in 15:55.2.
West Linn sophomore Roman Ollar won the race with a 15:38.2 clocking, leading the Lions (140 points) to third place behind Mountain View (96) and Skyview (116) in a 32-team field.
Will Thompson placed ninth (16:03.9) and the Falcon senior talent led La Salle boys to fourth place in a field that consisted mostly of teams from larger Class 6A and 5A schools.
Teaming up with Thompson to score for the Falcons were: junior Jason Rae, 15th (16:12); and seniors Colton Passmore, 37th (16:39.7), Logan Veasy, 39th (16:40.9) and Davis Keeney, 55th (16:54.8).
Lakeridge (256 points), Wilsonville (323), Oregon City (372), Lake Oswego (450), Clackamas (800) and Putnam (908) placed sixth, ninth, 13th, 17th, 29th and 30th respectively in the varsity boys team scoring.
Led by freshman Maia Edwards, Clackamas girls (243 points) held their own in the varsity girls race, placing eighth in a field of 26 girls teams.
Mt. View (112) won the girls competition, finishing well in front of the runner-up girls team from Prairie (133). Lakeridge girls (232) placed sixth.
Edwards was clocked in 18:52.6, good for eighth place in the 224-runner girls field. Wilsonville senior Taryn Rawlings set the pace, at 17:59.7.
Oregon City junior Miranda Nelson (20:01.5) placed 33rd to lead the Pioneers to 19th place.
Other scorers for Clackamas girls included: juniors Courtney Beard, 32nd (19:58); Zoe Clegg, 60th (20:49); Sydney Peters, 72nd (21:05); and Amber Harvey, 81st (21:10).
Clackamas girls (5-1) finished second in the TRL dual meet standings this fall, losing only to Lakeridge (6-0), which defeated Clackamas 21-40.
The Three Rivers League district meet is set for this afternoon at Clackamas Community College. The varsity girls race is scheduled for 4 p.m., followed by the varsity boys race at 4:30 p.m.
