Rays hole in one lifts Clackamas past LO

LAKE OSWEGO — April 14 was a big day for Clackamas High School junior Rebecca Ray.

Ray was playing golf with her high school golf team at Oswego Lake Country Club, and she scored a hole in one, the first of her short golfing career.

“She’s only been playing golf for two or three years,” said Clackamas golf coach Darren Welborn. “She’s been on the golf team for two year’s and she’s improved a lot, especially around the green.

“We’ve play three matches this year and she’s had scores of 102, 100, and now 90.”

Welborn said that Ray’s ace on April 14 was huge, because it helped Clackamas girls finished ahead of Lake Oswego, in second place by a point, at the April 14 league match.

“We beat Lake Oswego by a stroke,” Welborn said. “That’s the first time in five years, if not more, that we’ve beaten Lake Oswego.”

Ray scored her ace on the 154-yard 11th hole at Oswego Lake, using her 5-hybrid to make the shot.

“I didn’t see it, but I heard it landed in front of the green, took four bounces, and went right in,” Welborn said.

Team scores for the Three Rivers League girls league meet were: West Linn 327, Clackamas 378, Lake Oswego 379, Canby 405, Oregon City 445 and Lakeridge 504.
