After an impressive freshman season at Santa Clara
Jo Paine, a former standout basketball player for Oregon City High School, has transferred from NCAA Division I Santa Clara University to Stetson University in DeLand, Florida, through a Grant-in-Aid offer.
Paine, a 2013 graduate of Oregon City High School, will have three years of eligibility remaining, beginning with the 2015-16 season.
Jo brings more versatility and proven production to our program said Stetson coach Lynn Bria. She had a great freshman season in the West Coast Conference, playing against great competition. Jo has a very mature offensive game and she can score from all levels, along with being a tough rebounder. She will be an impact player for us and will have three years in a Hatter uniform. We are very excited to have Jo come aboard.
Paine, a 6-0 forward, averaged 10.3 points and 4.9 rebounds for the Santa Clara Broncos during the past season and was selected to the West Coast Conference All-Freshmen Team. She started all 30 games, leading the team in 3-point field goal shooting percentage (.375) and tying for the team lead in 3-pointers, with 36. She also ranked second on the team in scoring and rebounding, had 38 assists and 16 steals.
Paine scored in double figures 18 times during the 2013-14 seasons, including a career-best 28 points in a Jan. 2 game with Pepperdine, a 100-93 double overtime loss.
Stetson went 27-8 last season, played in the Womens National Invitational Tournament, and placed second in the Atlantic Sun Conference, with a 16-2 record.
Santa Clara finished with a 10-20 record in 2013-14.
