Nonprofit organization now called the Estacada Area Literary Foundation

Months after a controversial decision to cease giving money to the Estacada Public Library, the former Estacada Public Library Foundation has officially changed its name.

The board of directors made the decision at its recent quarterly meeting and was unanimous in selecting the new moniker - the Estacada Area Literary Foundation.

The relationship between the foundation and the Estacada Library suffered amid a debate over how well the library was being operated.

Chairwoman Linda Arnett, however, downplays the impact the controversy had on the foundation's decision to change its name.

"There wasn't any big push," she said. "The board just decided they wanted to change the name. This way, we will be reaching out and serving a lot more organizations and activities in the community.

"We won't be limited to the library anymore," she added.

The foundation, which has been around for 20 years, always had the option of giving to other literary organizations, but had focused its spending on the library in particular. The name change reflects a change in priorities.

Any organization interested in receiving support from the foundation can submit a funding request to the Book Nook, or to the foundation's P.O. Box (922).

While the foundation's website was removed from the Estacada Public Library's page, it does have a Facebook page while it works on creating a new site.

The foundation's brick and mortar used bookstore, The Book Nook, remains open.
