Adolf Jacob “A.J.” Heckel

Eagle Creek resident Adolf Jacob “A.J.” Heckel, 82, died Tuesday, Aug. 21. A memorial service has already been held.

A.J. was born April 6, 1930, in Odessa, Ukraine, to Jacob and Emma (Wolf) Heckel.

Adolf Jacob 'A.J.' HeckelHe lived in Gresham from 1956-1960 and then in Eagle Creek and Sandy. He was a berry farmer.

On April 6, 1991, he married Deanna Leathers in Sandy.

A.J. attended Eagle Creek Presbyterian Church and was an elder for about eight years. He loved to dance and was an avid soccer player until he was 75 years old.

His brother, Bill Heckel, preceded him in death.

Survivors include his wife; daughters, Kathy Hunter and Sherrie Maguire of Marblemount, Wash.; sons, Edward Heckel of Bend, Bob Heckel of Sandy and Doug Heckel of Sandy; stepson, Dan Ogle of Salem; stepdaughter, Pam Griese of Doty, Wash.; sister, Alvina Raff of Gresham; brother, Ron Heckel of Tillamook; 15 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

Memorial donations can be made to Eagle Creek Presbyterian Church, 29455 S.E. Burnett Road, Eagle Creek, 97022.
