Every holiday season, church choirs in Estacada ranging in size from five people to a large group gather in their finest red, green, black and white for a free public festival.

“It's just become one of the most satisfying things to occur all year and brings out the best in everyone,” Director Edith Cameron says. “It’s the best thing that happens outside our family Christmas.”

The Estacada Community Messiah Choir begins rehearsals at 7 p.m. Saturdays starting Nov. 10 at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 30498 S.E. Eagle Creek Road.

“It’s a totally sacred concert; no ‘Frosty the Snowman’ or ‘Rudolph,” says Shirley Lippincott, another event organizer. “It’s just a delightful experience in the spirit of the season."

Rehearsals culminate in the 19th annual Estacada Christmas Festival of Choirs Saturday, Dec. 8, at the Junior High School auditorium, followed by refreshments.

This year’s selections require four parts for “And the Glory of the Lord,” “O Thou, That Tellest Good Tidings to Zion,” “Surely He Hath Borne Our Griefs,” and “The Hallelujah Chorus.”

All Estacada singers, regardless of religious affiliation, are invited to participate. Music will be provided to those who don’t have their own scores.
