Vandals used a BB gun to destroy car windows around Sandy
Four young men from Estacada, Eagle Creek and Boring were arrested with three police weapons pointed at them Friday, Dec. 23, after Sandy police officers were alerted to car windows being shot 'drive-by' style all over the city.
The suspects were allegedly using a pink BB gun to destroy windows as they drove around Sandy.
By midnight Christmas Day, 33 victims had been identified, and they reported damage value in excess of $17,000. Police say there could be more victims, and they are hoping all will contact the Sandy Police Department.
Arrested for first-degree criminal mischief and multiple counts of reckless endangering were James K. Burns, 18, and Michael E. Anderson, 19, both of Estacada. They were lodged in the Clackamas County Jail.
During the booking process, a small amount of heroin was discovered in Burns' possession, adding to his charges.
Also arrested were Michael S. Koenig, 21, of Eagle Creek and Dylan E. Cuzzetto, 18, of Boring. These suspects were released, but their cases have been sent to the Clackamas County District Attorney for review of charges to be filed.
A description of the white van the suspects were in led to their identification and capture, according to officer Sam Craven of the Sandy Police Department.
When the van was located driving through a nearby neighborhood, three Sandy officers removed five people from the van at gunpoint. Four were arrested at the scene, and one was released without charges.
Each of the four suspects allegedly confessed to shooting the windows of vehicles as they passed by in the van.
Anyone who discovers similar damage to a vehicle or a home is asked to contact the Sandy Police Department during its open hours at 503-668-5566.
