by: CONTRIBUTED - The annual Estacada Fire Department Open House and Safety Fair is from 1-5 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 22The Estacada Fire Department will hold its annual Open House and Safety Fair from 1-5 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 22.

The whole family is invited to this free event.

Attendees will be treated to free nachos and slushies, a live fire attack, forcible entry demonstration, high-angle rope rescue demonstration and a patient resuscitation simulation.

Guests can check out a Life Flight helicopter, make practice 9-1-1 calls with 911-COMM, compare and contrast an antique fire alarm telegraph and a modern smoke alarm thanks to Mt. Wave and the Oregon Department of Forestry, learn a “hands only” CPR technique, practice using a real fire extinguisher (while supplies last), ride a fire engine (if you’re big enough), try on firefighter gear and get photographed in a fire engine.

Kids may practice biking safety skills, and teens and grown-ups can learn about volunteering opportunities as a firefighter, emergency medical responder, Fire Corps member or Fire Explorer.

Kids who visit each section of the fair and fill out their “passports” will be entered in a raffle for the chance to have their birthday party at the fire station.

The fire station is at 261 S.E. Fifth Ave.
