Information for this column comes from Sandy Police Department public records. The Sandy Police Department provides service in Estacada. Officers recently filed reports on the following incidents.


Around 3:40 p.m. Friday, Feb. 21, an officer recognized John B. Weaver, 20, of Estacada as he was walking along Northwest Third Avenue. When the officer tried to stop him, a “short foot chase ensued.” Weaver was on parole for third-degree rape and there were warrants out for his arrest for a parole violation and failure to appear in court for menacing and second-degree disorderly conduct charges. Once apprehended, Weaver was lodged in the Clackamas County Jail. Bail was set at $10,000. Weaver also was issued a citation for minor in possession of alcohol.


On Wednesday, Feb. 19, someone called the police to report young people were possibly smoking marijuana in a baseball field dugout near Estacada High School. An Estacada officer and a Clackamas County Sheriff’s Office deputy approached the youths from opposite ends of the fields. The officer stopped four minors and found marijuana in the possession of one of them and determined all three had been smoking. School officials suspended the three that had smoked. The Clackamas County Juvenile Department may consider further action.


Around 11:30 a.m. Monday, Feb. 17, a resident of the 400 block of Northeast Carole Street told police that a utility trailer had been stolen. The trailer was recovered after a vehicle pulling it crashed in Gresham while fleeing from a Clackamas County Sheriff’s Deputy. The trailer was damaged.

At 9:54 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 20, an officer responded to suspicious activity in the 300 block of Northwest Sixth Avenue. The officer found Jay G. Railsback, 31, of Colorado stealing gas from a City of Estacada bus. Railsback was cited for third-degree theft and released at the scene.


On Wednesday, Feb. 19, an officer served three truancy citations to the parents of Estacada High School students living in the 25800 block of Southeast Eagle Creek Road, Eagle Creek.


On Tuesday, Feb. 18, city personnel told police that $100 worth of damage had been

done to the lock on the men’s bathroom at the skate park on Wade Street. There are no suspects.


Police were dispatched to a woman who had allegedly consumed alcohol in violation of her probation in the 300 block of Broadway Street on Tuesday, Feb. 18. Police contacted the probation officer but she was new to the case and off duty and couldn’t provide the information necessary for police to detain the woman. The police report will be forwarded to the probation officer.
