Show coming to Estacada Auditorium March 13-15

by: COYOTE CREATIONS NW - PAGE actors Glen James and Kathy Erickson embody the trivial comedy for serious people.Undeterred by a rehearsal space mix-up, the actors have no trouble getting into character in the entrance hallway of the Estacada Public Library.

Rehearsals are in full swing as the Performing Arts Group of Estacada’s production of “The Importance of Being Earnest” draws near.

Despite the hoodies and T-shirts they sport and the colorful posters and fluorescent lights that surround them in this rogue rehearsal, the PAGE actors effortlessly transport the observer back to Oscar Wilde’s sophisticated, witty farce of the upper-crust of the 1890s.

Director Julie Hamer said that as the cast discussed the production they decided Wilde’s social commentary was salient by: ISABEL GAUTSCHI - Director Julie Hamer shows off a flashy stage model created by Artistic Director Nina Bradford for PAGE's production of 'The Importance of Being Earnest.'enough to apply to the modern day.

Hamer’s cast ranges in age from 16 to 76 years.

The show’s youngest actor, James Tenbush, was a key factor in the choice of the show.

Hamer said she had been inspired watching Tenbush bring life to the script during a summer PAGE workshop.

“It was mostly the attitude of it, it was very light hearted. It was fun,” said Tenbush.

That quality of fun is apparent in all of the actors’ performances of the “trivial comedy for serious people” ... and in the casting itself. Get ready for a surprise Lady Bracknell.

The show is coming to the Estacada Auditorium stage 7 p.m. Thursday- Saturday, March 13-15, and at 2 p.m. Sunday, March 16. Admission is free but donations are gratefully accepted.
