by: ESTACADA NEWS PHOTO: ISABEL GAUTSCHI - What, dont they look trustworthy? Seriously though, these Eagle Creek Girl Scouts would like you to know the Estacada Area Food Bank is in need of donations of personal hygeine items. Pictured from left: Amber Haggstrom, 10; Lily McCoy, 11; Kaileigha Engeldinger, 7; Emily Hall, 10; Lilly Mixon, 10 and Adelia Jeppeson, 10.Of course the Estacada Area Food Bank could use food donations, but did you know it also is in need of personal hygiene items such as shampoo, toothpaste and soap?

Girl Scout Troop No. 45706 of Eagle Creek wants to make sure you know.

The Girl Scouts are delivering cards to local businesses that explain the need for hygiene items and how to donate them to the Estacada Area Food Bank. The cards will be displayed at checkout counters for the convenience of customers.

This troop has had a relationship with the food bank for the last few years.

The Girl Scouts have helped repackage bulk food items for food bank patrons.

Troop co-leader Renate Ryan-Jeppeson said the troop had made some extra money with cookie sales this year.

They asked Estacada Area Food Bank Director Barbara Shibley what the bank was most in need of.

Shibley provided the troop with a list consisting of mostly personal hygiene items, which came as a surprise.

The Girl Scouts decided to take their effort to the next level, by raising awareness of the need.

“(We want to) raise awareness that you can get stuff not just for yourself, but also for the less fortunate,” said Lily McCoy, 11.
