You’ve probably noticed that Wade Street is being completely redone.

The street is being reconstructed and paved thanks to a $50,000 Special City Allotment Grant from the Oregon Department of Transportation.

The city also is spending $11,675 on the project.

Melanie Wagner, assistant to City Manager Bill Elliott, said the city was excited about the grant, which is awarded to cities with populations of less than 5,000.

In the past, Estacada applied for and received the grant every year for several years, Wagner said.

The city received and used the then $25,000 grant in past years to resurface Second Avenue and Zobrist Street.

Once the grant was increased to $50,000 the process became more competitive and Estacada did not receive the grant again until this year.

Work on Wade Street began Tuesday, June 24, and is expected to continue through Friday.

Businesses in the construction area will remain open, though visitors may have to park on side streets.
