Development Association awarded grant for cycling plaza

The Estacada Development Association was awarded $8,000 in matching funds through a Travel Oregon Local Tourism Development grant.

The grant was awarded for the association’s project to build a cycling plaza near City Hall.

The plaza is intended to serve as a rest area for cyclists before they embark on the newly designated Cascading River Scenic Bikeway or other local recreational areas.

“We broke ground last month at the site,” Dave Piper, the association’s treasurer wrote in an email. “The entire area has been excavated down to rough grade and the information kiosk is under construction by the Job Corps.”

“Artists have been chosen to construct the bike rack and its design has been approved,” he continued. “The bike rack should be complete in September and it's going to be stunning.”

Piper noted that the association continues to pursue grants for the plaza.
