American Legion plans car cruise-in
Car enthusiasts should get ready to rev their engines this weekend.
Members of the American Legion Carl Douglas Post will host their 4th annual cruise-in from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, July 8, at the Viewpoint Restaurant & Lounge, 20189 S. Springwater Road.
In previous years, the cruise-in has drawn around 95 cars, but organizers hope to reach the 150 mark this year. Last year, cars, trucks and motorcycles from as far as Portland and Oregon City participated in the event.
The cruise-in features many categories for vehicles to be entered into, including decades from the 1930s-1980s, muscle cars, imports, stock motorcycles and custom motorcycles. Additionally, several lucky vehicles will be honored with the People's Choice, Viewpoint and Best in Show awards.
The day also features cash drawings totaling $600, food and music.
Post members enjoy seeing the variety of entrees that the event draws. Last year, a car with two engines and a car that all veterans were encouraged to sign were both in attendance.
For those who wish to enter their vehicles in the cruise-in, registration is $15 per vehicle and free for active members of the military with identification. All proceeds from the event will support local programs organized by the Estacada American Legion Carl Douglas Post, and post members note that this is their biggest fundraiser of the year. Typically, the event brings in around $4,000. Programs supported by funds raised include sending students to Boys and Girls State each summer, sponsoring a baseball team and honoring Estacada's law enforcement officer, firefighter and teacher of the year.
