Cowgirls, horses plan group ride at Milo McIver
A group that embraces horseback riding and community will soon take to the trails of Milo McIver State Park.
The 40-Something Cowgirls has chapters across the country and in Australia, including one group in Estacada. The McMinnville cowgirls will stop by Milo McIver for their monthly trail ride on Tuesday, Feb. 20.
Paula Hess of the 40-Something Cowgirls' McMinnville chapter described the group as "an organization of mature women" ages 31 and older, though women 21 and older can join as little sisters.
"Most of us have raised our kids, and they're grown and gone," Hess said. "Now this is our time to have fun."
In addition to horseback riding events, the group also organizes movie nights, craft events and raises money for charity.
Hess said the group enjoys riding at Milo McIver.
"All of the Oregon chapters go there," she said. "It's great to go all year round, especially with horses. It doesn't get too muddy."
She added that the camaraderie of the group is something that particularly stands out to her. Members aren't required to own horses, and any style of horseback riding is welcome.
"I can drive to Arizona, and call one of the cowgirls there with a flat tire, and they'll help," she said. "It's a huge network of women who enjoy horses and getting together. We're all about having a good time and the inclusion of everyone."
