Parade application available online

Mountain Festivals 2013 theme is Hometown, U.S.A


The Sandy Mountain Festival invites participants in its annual parade to begin submitting registration forms. The registration deadline is Sunday, June 30.

The parade begins at 7 p.m. Thursday, July 11, starting at Bluff Road and continuing along Pioneer Boulevard through town, ending at Wolf Drive.

This year’s parade and festival theme is “Hometown, U.S.A.”

The Sandy Mountain Festival parade is part of the weeklong events in town. The festival attracts thousands of people for the parade, the Chamber of Commerce Food Fair and Feast, and the arts festival in Meinig Park.

The parade rules have been slightly modified this year, most notably in regard to equestrian entries. Participants is that category are advised to pay particular attention to the changes.

Notable rule changes for equestrian entries include:

n Horses that have never participated in a parade must be led by lead rope for the entire length of the parade.

n No tandem riding (one horse, one rider).

n The equestrian supervisor has full authority to disqualify any animal or rider deemed a safety risk.
