Kitty Leone recently was elected president of the Farmers Market, and she's the first to admit she has some big shoes to fill.

Leone said that she is thankful that Heberden will continue to be involved in the Farmers Market in an adviser capacity.

“He did so much,” Leone said.

Thanks to an impending storm, the market and all of the end-of-the-season festivities were in danger of being canceled.

But Heberden managed to arrange for the usually-outdoor market to be held indoors Saturday, Sept. 28.

Tom Wille granted free use of the Mason Building for the final market of 2013.

The day was saved.

“Everyone has agreed this is the best year it has ever been,” Leone said.

In 2013 there were twice as many regular vendors as in 2012, she said.

For the last half of the 2013 season, there was a musical act booked for the market every week.

Leone said she hopes to have more produce vendors, a lunch cart and a baker vendor next season.

She also would like to have monthly cooking, baking and crafting demonstrations.

Committee meetings for the 2014 season will start in February.

Leone said market organizers would welcome new members to the committee.

“We would love more people to get involved, especially this year,” she said.

As customary, the Farmers Market will donate to charity at the end of 2013.

Leone said the market will make a donation to the Estacada Area Food Bank and “adopt a family” with the Adopt-a-Family program, which matches sponsors with low-income families to help provide necessities during the holiday season.
