Ponchos for Ponies

The Ponchos for Ponies program offers free gently used waterproof turnouts to horses who would otherwise go without a winter coat. Annual Student Art Show

Budding artists, ages 5-95, will be featured in the Spiral Gallery's annual student art show and reception from 6-8 p.m. Friday, Jan. 3. If you would like to be featured in the show, you may apply by visiting www.thespiralgallery.com and following the “Student Art Show” link and downloading an application. Please note that pieces must be for sale, and the gallery will take a small commission. Send in that application promptly, because it's first come, first serve!

Calling all artists

The Estacada Public Library is planning the construction of a new outdoor library sign. Artists are invited to submit rough designs for a low, monument-style sign that will be installed in front of the library. Designs may be dropped off at the library between the hours of 10 a.m and 7 p.m., Monday-Thursday, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday, or 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday-Sunday. Powerhouse Project Art Show

Don’t forget to check out the Powerhouse Project Art Show hanging in the Estacada Public Library through early January. Twenty nine Oregon artists explored the historic North Fork Dam and Powerhouse this June and created paintings, quilts, collages, photographs, prints, clay sculpture, wood carvings, and writing pieces inspired by the experience. UpRiver Dulcimer Group

The UpRiver Dulcimer Group plays Appalachian, or mountain music, from 6:30-8 p.m. the first and third Monday of every month at the Spiral Gallery, 341 S. Broadway. The group is made up of local musicians who perform at events and centers around the area.

Tuesday Crafternoons

Crafternoons are held from 4-6 p.m. every Tuesday at Mossy Rock, 398 Broadway St. All ages and skill levels are invited to bring their favorite arts and crafts supplies and projects to Crafternoons. Pancake Breakfast

Springwater Grange is holding its monthly pancake breakfast from 7-11 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 4. A menu of eggs cooked to order, sausage, pancakes, hash browns, biscuits, gravy, juice and coffee is available for $5. Springwater Grange is at the corner of Wallens and Springwater Road.

Library Action Plan meeting

Estacada Public Library will host a meeting for those interested in developing an action plan for the library at 6:30 p.m., Tuesday, Jan. 7. The formation of committees to develop an action plan for the library's 2013-18 strategic plan will be discussed. For more information call the library at 503-630-8273.

Cover Oregon Q & A

LEGO Creativity Club

LEGO lovers in grades 3-6 are invited to come get some LEGO building tips and tricks from local enthusiast Blair Archer from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 18 at the Estacada Public Library. There will be plenty of LEGO bricks handy to build with.

Computer tutorials

Cathy Kreisman is offering computer tutorials 10 a.m. to noon Wednesday, Jan. 8. To sign up for a half-hour session on Jan. 8, please call the library at 503-630-8273. There will be no more computer tutorials for the remainder of January. Sessions will begin again in February.

OUTDOOR ACTIVITIES

Mossy Rocks 4-H Club accepting new members

Are you in sixth-, seventh- or eighth-grade and interested in the natural sciences and great outdoors? Mossy Rocks 4-H is just the club for you. In the coming year, club members will learn about geology, observe wildlife, help out with a few community service projects, go on one or two overnight trips and continue with natural science studies. Members must like being outdoors (even if the weather isn’t perfect) and must be willing to wake up early for activities every now and then. Grief Share

The Grief Share group helps those who have lost a loved one to find comfort and acceptance and to find the joy that remains in their lives. Confidentiality is required of all who attend. AA offers hope

The Estacada friendship group of AA offers hope and help for the alcoholic who still suffers. Meetings are held from 7-8:30 p.m. every Monday and Friday at the St. Aloysius Catholic Church Community Hall, 297 N. Lions Clubhouse

Women’s advocates

Clackamas Women’s Services has sites in Estacada and Sandy where rural advocates can provide crisis support, case management, advocacy, legal assistance, counseling and support groups for survivors of domestic and sexual violence living in Clackamas County. Yellow House Thrift Store

The Yellow House Thrift Store, or the Community Services Center, is open between 9 a.m. and 2 p.m. Mondays, Tuesdays and Wednesdays, at 207 N. Free blood pressure screening

Providence Willamette Falls Medical Center offers drop-in, free blood pressure screening from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. the third Thursday of every month.

High blood pressure can lead to a number of health issues, so it is helpful to be screened. The center is at 1500 Division St., Oregon City.
