Community Center Annual Board Meeting

The Friends of the Estacada Community Center Board of Directors will hold its annual board meeting at 4 p.m. Thursday, June 19. As always, the meeting is open to the public. The board meets at 4 p.m. the third Thursday of each month at the Center, 200 S.W. Clubhouse Drive.

Foster Farm opening day

Philip Foster Farm will celebrate opening for the summer season with a Dutch Oven Cook Off, live music by local artists, hands-on activities and of course history on Saturday, June 21.

Booster Burgers will be available for purchase; proceeds will support the Safe Alcohol Free All-night Celebration Time (SAFACT) graduation party for 2015 Estacada Graduates.

Guests will have an opportunity to see the freshly repainted inside of the 1883 farmhouse and to meet the farm’s new outreach coordinator, Kate Damon.

The farm is open 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday, June 24-Aug. 31.

Admission costs $5 per person or $20 a family.

Annual memberships are available for $15 per person or $35 per family. Members may visit Philip Foster Farm for free throughout 2014.

Cascade Locks and Fruit Loop Tour

A group will leave the Estacada Community Center at 10 a.m. Wednesday, June 25, to travel the scenic Columbia River Highway.

The tour will stop at a museum and for lunch at McDonalds.

The group will travel over Mount Hood on the way back to Estacada and will stop at fruit stands along the way.

Transportation costs $10 a person. Eight people must sign up in order for the trip to happen.

Chamber Parade

The theme of this year’s Estacada Chamber of Commerce Fourth of July Parade is “bicycling.” Parade applications are available at www.estacadachamber.org.

Timber Festival

It’s on!

Timber Park has been secured as the location for the 2014 Timber Festival. The festival runs from noon to midnight, Friday, July 4. A $10 parking fee per car grants free admission to all of the car’s occupants. Walk-ins are admitted for $5 each. Kids ages 10 and younger get in for free.

Don’t forget to bring a blanket or chair for optimum viewing comfort. The location offers a great view of the Big Bang Fireworks show at 10 p.m.

1970s class reunion

All Estacada High School graduates from the 1970s are invited to a potluck-reunion noon to 5 p.m. Saturday, July 12, at the Timber Bowl.


Orchestracada seeks new members

Anyone ages 6 and up interested in playing a musical instrument is invited to join Orchestracada.

Already a musician? You’re invited to join Orchestracada and share your talent with new musicians.

Starting Tuesday, June 24, rehearsals will be held at 6 p.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays in the music room of River Mill Elementary. Beginning and intermediate musicians will play until 7:30 p.m., advanced musicians continue until 8:30 p.m.

Twisted Twig Garden Trellis

Learn to make a one-of-a-kind, 5-feet-long twig trellis during a workshop from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, June 21 at Wade Creek House, 664 N.W. Wade Street.

The class costs $25.

Remember to bring gloves, a small hammer, pruners and a cordless drill if you have one. All other materials are included in the price of the class.

Folk Arts in the Parks

A “Warm Springs Regalia: Traditional Wasco Beadwork” presentation will be given from noon to 2 p.m. Saturday, June 21, in Milo McIver State Park.

Roberta Kirk, a member of the Confederated Tribes of the Warm Springs Reservation, will demonstrate the creation of traditional Wasco beadwork and display her beautiful handiwork.

The event is part of “Folk Arts in the Parks” in collaboration with the Estacada Area Arts Commission. “Folk Arts in the Parks” is sponsored by the Oregon Parks and Recreation Department, the University of Oregon’s Folklife Network, the Oregon Arts Commission and the Oregon Cultural Trust.

The presentation is free, but the park requires a $5 day-use permit per vehicle.

Quilt club meets

The Skip-a-Week Quilt Club meets from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. every Wednesday at the Garfield Grange on Divers Road. For more information, call Ruth at 503-630-4669.

Spinning group

The Estacada spinning and fiber arts group meets from 2:30-4:30 p.m. Fridays at Betty Veveiros CPA, 309 S.W. Highway 224.


American Legion Cruise In at the Viewpoint

A Cruise In will be held rain or shine Saturday, June 21, at the Viewpoint Restaurant, 20189 S. Springwater Road.

Admission is free to the public. There will be good food, a barbecue in the beer garden, drinks, raffle prizes, vendors and lots of fun.

Proceeds will benefit the American Legion Carl Douglas Post 74.

D.J. Larry Perini will play from 2-5 p.m. in the beer garden.

Showtime is from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., judging from noon to 2 p.m.

Kruise In For Kids

The second annual Kruise-In for Kids will be from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, June 28, at the Clackamas Valley Baptist Church, 19175 S.E. Eagle Creek Road.

There will be food, music, trophies, raffles, goodie bags and fun for the whole family.

The event is a fundraiser to purchase backpacks and school supplies for local children in need. There is a $15 registration fee. Call 503-348-7276 for more information on registration.


Free Summer Meal Program

The Estacada School District is offering free meals to children ages 18 and under at four sites June 16 to Aug. 16.

Breakfast will be served from 8:30-9 a.m. Monday through Friday at Clackamas River Elementary, 301 N.E. Second Ave.

Lunches will be available noon to 1 p.m. Monday-Friday at Clackamas River Elementary; 11:20-11:50 a.m. Monday-Friday at Eagle Crest Mobile Estates, 25800 S.E. Eagle Creek Rd; noon to 12:30 p.m. Monday-Friday at Eagle Creek Elementary, 30391 S.E. Highway 211 and noon to 12:30 p.m. Monday-Friday at the Estacada Skate Park/Library, 825 N.W. Wade Street. Adults may purchase breakfast for $2.50 and lunch for $3.50.

Community Center

The Estacada Community Center offers free breakfast 8 a.m. to noon the third Saturday of each month. The center is at 200 Southwest Club House Drive.


Dani Battles Fundraiser

Dani Battles was in a serious car accident in November 2013.

Despite being told that she’d never breathe on her own, talk or feed herself, she’s been able to do these things and more after six months.

A fundraiser for Battles’ rehabilitation will be held 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. Saturday, June 21, at Odd Fellows Hall, 267 S.W. Second Ave.

There will be a raffle, a silent auction, live music from Ira Davis, muscle cars and classic cars, motorcycles, fire engines, face painting and balloon animals.

Food and beverages will be for sale as will “Team Dani” bracelets, shirts, balloons and water bottles.

Raffle and auction tickets may be purchased prior to the event.

Summer Bible School

Holy Spirit conference

The Estacada Assembly of God will host conferences on the Holy Spirit at 6 p.m. Saturday, July 5 and at 10:30 a.m. and 6:30 p.m. Sunday, July 6.

The conference will focus on personal understanding, experiencing and ministering the Holy Spirit’s power along with anointed music, preaching of the word and seeking God.

The Estacada friendship group of AA offers hope and help for the alcoholic who still suffers. Al-Anon and Alateen

If someone’s drinking bothers you, Al-Anon and Alateen can help.

Alateen meets at 7 p.m. every Tuesday.
