Ontario ends Estacada's football season

The Estacada Rangers were defeated 27-6 by the Ontario Tigers in the 4A football play-in round last Friday at Ontario High School.

Facing the state's No. 11 ranked team, Estacada entered the game hoping to squash the run and force Ontario to pass. The Tigers, though, had enough speed to find the open space and solidify their air-attack.

“We wanted them to throw the ball,” Rangers' head coach Randy Waite said. “They completed a pretty high percentage of their passes. That ended up being what put us to sleep.”

Estacada had a tough time establishing its game plan on offense, as well.

The Rangers wanted to lean on their running game, but Ontario's quickness and physicality kept the holes plugged.

“We were playing an opponent that was pretty fast and aggressive and we had a difficult time picking up those things,” Waite said.

Estacada finishes the year 5-5 and will graduate three starters.

“Our seniors did a great job of leading this year and finished out as strong as I could have hoping they would have,” Waite said. “They have a lot of things to be proud of.

"It was a good year. I'm really happy the kids got to finish off in the playoffs."
